The team of the Collaborative Research Centre at the University of Wuppertal is very pleased about the approval. Starting in April 2025, the DFG will fund the project on Port-Hamiltonsche systems around spokesperson Prof. Dr. Birgit Jacob (front, middle left) with 7.7 million euros. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the Collaborative Research Center 1701 “Port Hamiltonian Systems” under the direction of Prof. Dr. Birgit Jacob and Prof. Dr. Claudia Totzeck at the University of Wuppertal with the participation of Faculty 6.

In this collaborative research centre, the theoretical foundations of consistent and energy-preserving couplings of mathematical models for complex computer simulations are investigated.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology is involved in a sub-project headed by Prof. Dr. Markus Clemens, Chair of Electromagnetic Theory:

"In close interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues from the field of mathematics, we are investigating how to couple different mathematical models for describing electrical currents and voltages, electromagnetic fields and temperature distributions in a physically meaningful way.

One long-term goal here is to develop computer-aided simulations that are as automated as possible for analyzing the electromagnetic compatibility of complex technical systems. These include, for example, modern electric vehicles or networked control and computer systems, whose interference-free functioning is to be ensured on the basis of such simulation-supported digital twins.

I am very much looking forward to continuing the close and successful collaboration with my colleagues from the mathematics department in this CRC."

Funding of the Collaborative Research Center 1701 begins on April 1, 2025.
