The goal of this research project is the development of efficient simulation methods for the design of high-voltage electric field system components with special consideration of electric field controlling materials. e field control. The properties of these materials and their potential applications in power electronics, such as cable terminations, insulator coatings, or end glow protection in electrical machines, are currently the focus of intense research.
The component design of these systems requires the use of time-domain computational simulation methods due to the nonlinearity of the material characteristics. This is related to the numerical computation of electro-quasi-static field distributions with special consideration of nonlinear current-voltage-material characteristics.
For this purpose, Model Order Reduction (MOR) methods will be developed based on the applicant's electroquasistatic time domain analysis methods. These will be investigated with respect to their numerical efficiency and accuracy. The efficiency of time-domain methods is to be improved so that parameter studies and optimizations with high-resolution models can be performed in practical computational times.
